About the Journal

GAYANA is a scientific Open Access Journal published by Universidad de Concepción, Chile. It is the modern version of Gayana Oceanología and Gayana Zoología. Therefore its numeration starts at volume 63(1).

GAYANA covers all aspects of zoology and oceanographic research. It is structured in five sections, defined by subject or discipline: Ecology, Biodiversity and Taxonomy, Earth Sciences, Evolutionary, and Applied Biology and Environmental Biology. Each section is in charge of an editor who receives and manages the manuscripts sent for evaluation in close collaboration with the editorial board.

GAYANA receives contributions in the following formats: Original article, Review, Short communication, Editorial comment, Book comment, and Obituaries. Manuscripts are accepted in English or Spanish although the use of the English language is encouraged.

 

Open Access Policy

GAYANA is an Open Access Journal which means that all content is freely available without charge to the personal user or his/her institution. Users and authors are allowed to read, download, save, distribute, print, or link to the full texts of the articles. 

The articles in GAYANA are published under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License that allows others to share the work and use them, without asking prior permission from the publisher or the author, with proper recognition of the work's authorship and initial publication in this journal.

 

Code of Ethics

GAYANA evaluates manuscripts by peer review, and its editors are committed to an objective and fair evaluation of submitted manuscripts, manuscripts will be evaluated for their intellectual content without making distinctions (e.g., gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, etc.).

An article submitted for publication in GAYANA must be original, not plagiarized, and not under review in any other journal. Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal at the same time is unethical and unacceptable in the scientific community.

 

Archiving Policy

GAYANA uses the LOCKSS, CLOCKS, and PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN) systems to preserve the digital content of the journal through these decentralized and distributed preservation systems to ensure perpetual access to the content over the long term.
